Body

From this point, you have a couple options to decide the fit of your top. You can continue knitting until the waist-band with no shaping, or you can create some waist shaping (explanation of waist shaping in the pdf version). But, first, you need to decide how many more rows you would like to knit.

  1. Put your top on.

  2. Measure from the bottom of the sleeve opening to where you would like the length of your top to finish. (I made the medium and measured to what was a little longer than my natural waist/to the top of a pair of high-waisted jeans).

  3. Using that measurement and the gauge for the top, figure out how many rows it is to your desired length.

Ex: I wanted my top to be 8.75” longer after separating the sleeves. Our gauge is 7.75 rows/1”

So, 8.75 x 7.75  = 67.8 row

That means I will be knitting 68 more rows. However, The design on the bottom is 24 rows and the bottom band is 20 rows (44 rows total). For that reason, I will knit another 24 rows straight (68 total rows minus 44 rows of bottom pattern = 24 rows) before I start the bottom pattern. If you are making your sweater longer, you might want to start the bottom pattern earlier, and then knit the hurdle st longer before you start the bottom band. This is all up to your discretion.

Knit in the round until you only have 44 more rows to knit to finish your top. Now we will make the bottom design.

Bottom Band:

The bottom band is 2” long. Feel free to make it longer or shorter if you so desire! You need a multiple of 5 sts for the Beaded Rib Stitch. Dec on Round 1 is for the top without waist shaping. If you used waist shaping, be aware that you might want to decrease less sts since you’ve already tapered in for the waist. If you are making a longer top, you might want to dec less for your hips. Try your top on to check.

Change to 4mm needles

Round 1: k around dec 9(8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 8) sts evenly. [175(200, 220, 240, 265, 285, 300) sts]

Round 2: *p2, k1, p1, k1* rep * * around

Round 3: *p2, k3* rep * * around

Round 4 - Round 21: rep Round 2 - Round 3

Neckline

Mark the center of your v neck and also the center of the back of your sweater like in the picture. Starting at the center of the back, pick up and knit an even number of sts around the neckline. (I picked up 3 sts for every 4 sts)

Round 1: *k1, p1* until 1 st before your v-neck center st, MD, *p1, k1* to end of round, ending on a p st.

Round 2: *k1, p1* until 1 st before your v-neck center st, MD, *k1, p1* to end of round.

Round 3: *k1, p1* until 1 st before your v-neck center st, MD, *p1, k1* to end of round, ending on a p st.

Weave in your ends and block to measurements. Bust measurements are as stated in the chart. Your length depends on the length you decided to knit your top to. Make sure you don’t stretch out the ribbing for the bottom band and the sleeves.
