Spring is in the air!! The last 2 days have been in the 60s(16-17°C) and it’s been sunny! I’m so ready for spring. We’ve been under feet of snow all winter! But, as is typical in Montreal, the spring weather is just a tease this time of year. We have rain and snow and just miserable weather for the rest of the next 2 weeks forecasted starting today. BOO! But, that’s ok.

In other news with us here, we finished up moving and have everything put away!! Took us most of the month to get the new house sorted, but now that it’s done, I’m back on designing!! This top is the first of my spring items, and I hope you guys love it!

ABOUT THIS Top:

This is the Windmill T-shirt. It gets its name from the windmill lace stitch at the bottom of the tee. The top is an A-line t-shirt that tucks in at the waist on the side and is cropped to wear with high waisted jeans or over a skirt. It looks super cute both as a casual top and as a blouse with a nice “Sunday Best” outfit. Wear it under a blazer or cardigan for easy effortless layers, or by itself! It really is awesome however you wear it!

The pattern is written for 6 sizes, S - 3XL, and easy to modify to make into more of a tunic top (like Emilie's) instead of a crop top. The top has 8” - 11” of positive ease already written into the top. You can find some information about making the top into a tunic and sizing in the notes section.

Sample is knit in Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK, which is a DK weight 3 yarn. I picked cotton to make my top because I plan to wear it all summer long. (I have worn it at least once a week since I finished it! And, I’ll probably be making it in another color at some point, too! lol) But, if you want to make this top more of a cute short sleeves sweater, feel free to knit it in a yarn that is much warmer, like wool or acrylic.

THANK YOU! to all my wonderful testers!

Lizzy, Jillian, Emilie, Rachel, Jasmine, Oudeah, Shannon, Cyn, and Thora

Finishing

Block both front and back to the correct measurements.

Seam shoulders and seam sides leaving a 6.5(7, 7, 7.5, 8, 8) inch opening. (If you need a larger sleeve opening, leave a little more space). I use the mattress stitch to seam my sides since it makes the cleanest seams, but you can use whichever method you’re most comfortable with.

Sleeves:

Pick up and knit sts evenly around the sleeve opening. For the small I did 74 sts around the opening. I would suggest about 74(80, 80, 86, 92, 92) sts. But, just make sure your sts are evenly placed and that both sleeves have the same amount. Connect for knitting in the round.

Round 1: p all sts

Round 2: k all sts

Round 3: p all sts

BO knitwise.

Rep for 2nd sleeve.

Collar:

I left my collar unworked because the cotton I used lended well to an unworked collar. However, if you use a different yarn, your collar might roll. To, remedy that, simply follow the directions for the sleeves around your collar until it is the length you desire.

Weave in ends and Wet/ Steam block sleeves/collar

Happy knitting!
