About This Shawl:

Feb 10th, 2021 Row 22 clarified. “2dc in next 2dc below “ changed to 2dc. (You put 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts)

When I first started this shawl, I wasn’t even really sure where this pattern was going to go. I wanted just a simple shawl pattern. Something that I could bring along with me to the beach or out on cool summer days. With that in mind, I decided on my yarn first, definitely cotton, and got started on our new pattern. But my hooks kind of took me in a different direction, and my simple shawl became this lovely open work piece.

Somewhat Southwestern/Western in style and vaguely doily like, The Doily Parton Shawl was born! (I have to thank my friend Moriah for that) This gorgeous shawl can compliment so many summer outfits. You can use it as a wrap over a bathing suit, thrown over your shoulders to cut down on the wind on a cool day, or wrapped around your neck to add some color to your outfit!

This pattern works best with contrasting colors. The difference between the light and bright colors makes a striking look. However, this pattern is great for any weight 4 worsted yarn. So, if you’re looking to make a bit warmer shawl, try this pattern out with a nice wool yarn. If you’re using a lighter weight yarn, you’ll probably want to make you’re shawl bigger than what I have outlined here.

Essentially, Row 5 - Row 13 are the core of the pattern. You just have to watch the end stitches on both sides, and the stitches around the central [2dc, ch2, 2dc] spine to make sure you are coming up with the right number of stitches each time. Once you’ve done the repeat of the core a few times, you’ll be able to see what’s going on and add rows accordingly.

I also made a full chart for this pattern. If any of you have ever tried to make a chart for a crochet project you know where I’m coming from, but DANG, charting is NO JOKE! I give made props to anyone who charts on a regular basis. Maybe I haven’t found the right software yet, I don’t know, but it is majorly time consuming! My husband set me up a template in photoshop so that I could do my charting now (so helpful to have a professional artist in the fam), so everything went a little quicker this time. But, it still took me the better part of 2 whole days to get it done.

If anyone knows some good crochet charting programs, hook a girl up!

Happy Crocheting!
