One week until Christmas y’all! If you celebrate. you ready? I’d say I’m ready, but mostly because I have a short reprieve since we aren’t travelling home until January!

But, we do have the Christmas tree up, and gifts bought (for the most part).

Recently, I’ve had the great opportunity to receive this beautiful Lion Brand Mandala Tweed yarn in exchange for an honest review from Yarn Canada. You can read that review here.

I’ve always really liked the look of asymmetrical shawls, but have rarely had the opportunity to make one. SO, why not give it a whirl? That’s pretty much the simple story of this shawl. I got the yarn, made a plan, and ran with it. When all is said and done, it kind of looks like static on a TV set, but in sunset colors. And, boom, Sunset Static! That’s the name.

For this scarf I used Lion Brand Mandala Tweed in colorway Lucky Penny. The colors in this colorway run the gamut, from deep purples, bright blue, golden tones, and olive greens. Sound weird, but actually completely beautiful!

Mandala Tweed is a medium weight 4 yarn that features 2 strands of different colored variegated yarns twisted around each other, which is what gives it its ‘tweed’ look. However, this would also look great in a solid colored yarn. Some substitutes for this yarn would be Lion Brand Ferris Wheel, Caron Jumbo or Cupcakes, CHEVAL BLANC Uttacryl, or BERGÈRE DE FRANCE Pur Merinos. These yarns all have very similar gauges. However, remember to make a gauge swatch (though, honestly, this shawl is very easy to adjust!). Most weight 4 yarns will be great to make this lovely shawl.

I love to see what you create!
