How is everyone this week? Hope everything is going well with you.

Nothing really new has been going on in these parts. It’s honestly been a pretty chill 2 weeks. Vin and I have been soaking up the down time because we know that the calm usually happens before the storm! Am I right?

We’re in the home stretch of summer, which means, at least for me, holiday knitting and crochet is about to ramp up big time. I have some larger projects planned for the blog, so I know I’m going to be a very busy beaver these upcoming months. So, I’m going to enjoy the next couple weeks as the slow summer days come to an end, and conserve my energy for the crazy I know is coming!

Anyway, about this weeks pattern. It’s hat time!!

Hats are truly one of my favotire things to make. I rarely wear them, even when my ears are freezing off, but I just can’t stop myself from making oodles of them. They are such a relaxing make, and you get such a feeling of accomplishment every time you finish one! Perfect!!

Well, with this hat, we’re with contrasting colors, (depending on how you crochet in your yarn) to create a pattern with a multitude of different heart motif. Whether you decide to make heart stripes, heart checks, or simple color block sections, this hat it adorable! Perfect for all ages. And, with 5 different sizes to choose from, you can make one for the whole family! Great for a mommy and me look! It’s truly what your heart desires!

You can also play with sizing. Like a tighter toque style hat? choose a smaller size OR leave out one row before decreasing and add a bobble. Do you prefer a slightly slouchy look? Just follow the directions for your head measurements. Or, even if you want a slouchy beanie style, size up and leave off the bobble.

For my hats, I used both Big Twist Value Yarn (I think it’s exclusively at JoAnn’s, but I might be wrong) and Red Heart Super Saver Yarn for my hats because I had them around. Both have similar gauge. However, most weight 4 yarns will work with this pattern from acrylic, to merino wool, to a beautiful wool blend. Just make sure you swatch so you’re getting the measurements that you want.

Some good yarn substitutes would be Caron Jumbo, Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran, or Caron simply soft. These yarns are not perfect matches for gauge, but the size of hats they produce is the same.

You really can get what your heart desires with this hat!

I love to see what you create!

What You Need:

Hook Size: 5 mm

Yarn: Medium Aran weight 4 Yarn, Make sure you gauge swatch so you can choose the correct hat size. I used Red Heart Super Saver 100% acrylic 160 yds per skein, and Big Twist Yarns Value 100% acrylic 371 yds per skein. One skein could make approx. 3 hats (or more) depending on the size you make.

Gauge: 18st/8 - 8.5rows = 4” in hdc rib

Sizing: Model is wearing Adult Med, Style 2&4 and has a 21” head circumference

Other: darning needles to weave in ends, scissors, bobble/puff ball

Styling

There is pretty much no limit to how you can make this hat. It’s definitely best to follow your heart’s desire when you’re making it (lol), but I can give you a few tips.

1. I personally made 5 different styles. Because I couldn’t decide what I liked best.

2. Pattern is written for making Style 1 (Blue/Magenta). Slightly slouchy with bobble.

3. For any other styles with heart motif, on the rows with the contrasting hearts, your dc should always be made with the MC, and the hearts should be made using the CC so that the hearts stand out. For style 4, you can just make each row one solid color instead of changing.

4. Carry the yarn throughout your work to eliminate the need to weave in many ends.

Skills Needed/Abbreviations:

Pattern is written in US abbreviations
